As luxury custom home builders, we first met our clients for this project in the original old brick home on the property. With architectural plans and town planning approval already in place, it was time to select a builder they could trust to take care of the construction of their luxury custom home. The difference with this project was that it was a dual occupancy build, or duplex. The design was for two side by side, double storey townhouses, separated by a party wall. Our client’s intention was to build one townhouse for them to move into with their young family, and the purpose of the other townhouse was either to sell, or rent out as an investment. So the overall brief was to build with a focus on high quality, but with a sharp eye on the overall budget. These homes were designed and built to be almost identical, indeed our clients only decided quite late in the building process, which one they wanted to keep as their own. The overall look of these luxury custom homes is stylish and modern, but each home has been decorated quite differently. The usual luxury appointments have not been overlooked, as each home has a spacious bathroom with freestanding bath, and two well-appointed ensuites, plus a practical and inviting powder room downstairs. What is becoming increasingly popular is the inclusion of a butler’s pantry, to ensure the dream kitchen looks great at all times. Premium finishes and appliances (including a steam oven) made these kitchens not only attractive to look at but fun and innovative to cook in.
We fitted Bamboo flooring throughout the ground floor (apart from the powder room), and our clients love the timber look and feel, with the added benefit of extra durability of Bamboo. This is also a great eco friendly flooring choice, and is more cost effective than hardwood. The flooring perfectly complements the central spine staircase with Victorian Ash treads. With eye catching feature lighting over the staircase, and feature LED strip lighting at the breakfast bar, both of these homes are practical in design but also satisfy the need for beauty. In keeping with the dual purpose of these two homes, the need for relatively low maintenance building materials led our clients to select aluminium windows and feature bifold doors that when fully opened create a seamless flow from indoor to outdoor entertaining areas. The exteriors of these homes have been tastefully finished with a practical and comfortable rear decking area. The front facades are similar with one home having a tiled façade and the other finished in Scyon Matrix cladding. The homes were completed at the front with feature Redgum sleeper fences, and exposed aggregate concrete driveways, allowing our clients to complete the front garden with plants of their choice.
