In late 2014 we purchased an existing home in Dromana. We had intentions to renovate the home as it was over 35 years old and it looked it!
We had an idea in mind of what we wanted in regards to the renovation so we were aware it would be extensive. What we didn’t have at that stage was a builder that could carry out a project of this size and to the quality standards we expected.
We found Wayne Stewart Builder online and from there we arranged to meet at our house and go over the project with Wayne. From the very first meeting Wayne made us feel comfortable and at ease. Wayne put forward solutions and ideas we hadn’t considered. These suggestions ended with becoming key points to the overall style of the build.
As part of his service Wayne arranged for a further site visit with his Draftsman to draw up the extension and new plans for our home. Wayne Stewart Builder handled all permit submissions to the Council and kept us in the loop right throughout the process.
We were extremely pleased with the way the build went. The ongoing communication from both Wayne and Colette Stewart was impeccable and made the whole experience much easier to deal with particularly as we lived in the property during the entire build.
There wasn’t one room in the house that went untouched and in fact we added a room, third bathroom, extensive decking and a list of items too long to mention in this testimonial. It should also be mentioned that all the tradies used by Wayne were of the same calibre and would also be recommended by us in their own right.
Overall we were more than pleased with the build quality and the end result. The outcome exceeded our expectations in every way possible. After going through a bad experience with a dodgy builder many years earlier it was a huge relief to deal with both Wayne and Colette.

Wayne Stewart’s company letterhead incorporates the statement ‘We renovate and build beautiful homes with old fashioned quality’. This could never be truer. I would never have believed the attention to detail that this builder gave, throughout the entire process of renovating our 20 year old home at Mt Martha.
Right from our first meeting with Wayne Stewart, there was a feeling of conscientious commitment to our project, as he listened very carefully to our ‘wish list’. We had never renovated to this extent before, and needed a lot of advice and recommendations, to help us with the decisions that we needed to make. Wayne encouraged us to upgrade existing fittings to complement the end result and we are so glad that we followed his advice, to ensure every detail in our home was consistent with the modern renovations. Whilst some of Wayne’s work is unseen at the end of the build, and friends and family only see the final decorated and furnished home, we are so aware of all the underlying structural work that was required (and carried out to an amazingly high standard).
He encouraged us to opt for a hardwood timber floor and the result is truly beautiful, and a stunning feature of our home. When fittings or materials were delivered, if anything did not match Wayne’s high standards, Wayne was quickly on the phone to the supplier to request a replacement. We had several tradesmen come to our house for other reasons apart from the build, and they all commented on the high standard of workmanship, and asked who our builder was. Wayne has a terrific team of people who work with him, including his wife, Colette. She was so helpful with advising us where to go to choose fittings and fixtures, and to provide recommendations for other companies that we requested, to make our home complete.
We were always comfortable to ask for advice-no question was ever treated as trivial, however silly it seemed to us at times! Also we were always kept ‘in the loop’. Wayne runs a tight ship, with a timeline for the construction working out so well, with our requirements. It was like watching a jigsaw puzzle come together. He is very well organized, and had all the upcoming tradesmen booked in advance, and ready to go when the job reached any given stage.
As with all projects of this type there were unexpected discoveries and unforeseen expenses. However Wayne and Colette remained focussed and kept the project moving along, so we could move into our home before Christmas, as planned. The end result is a promise fulfilled; a home renovated with old fashioned quality-Wayne Stewart and his team transformed our ideas into a lovely, liveable, workable reality. Wayne has carried out renovations on my home progressively over the past 10 years. This includes new bathroom, new kitchen and refurbishment of all existing rooms as well as adding a verandah and large deck. When we were getting quotes for our extension Wayne Stewart was the first of 5 builders we saw, and he immediately made us confident in his skills and abilities. Friendly, professional and knowledgeable, we knew immediately that he was someone who knew what they were doing and was able to do the job.
One thing that stands out for us, before we even signed the contract with Wayne Stewart Builders is what Colette said to us; that they wouldn’t be the cheapest, but they would be the best. That honesty remained with us throughout the many complications of our build.
Initially it was what seemed like a relatively simple matter of filling in of a balcony to turn into bedroom suite, along with the removal of a pole and re-supporting the room above with a steel beam. But it turned into drainage, retaining wall, plus driveway work.
The latter of which Wayne had said he could do early on, but the drainage and retaining wall was new work, something which we are thankful of Wayne’s knowledge and experience of, as it’s something we had not looked forward to finding other trades to carry out the work.
Throughout the building process Wayne was accommodating to any changes or alterations that needed to be done, any changes we requested were quickly acted upon and any problems that arose speedily addressed.
It was Wayne Stewart’s knowledge and experience in the industry which has been on display throughout the whole process, not just construction of our extension, but the drainage, concreting and other works that were constructed and rebuilt throughout the whole process.
Communication was always easy with emails being replied to within the day, Wayne would answer his phone if we called, or text messaged and always with a friendly tone and ready to explain things.
We remember meeting Wayne Stewart for the first time well over a year ago now.

After a lengthy process getting quotes and lack lustre ideas from various bathroom renovation companies, we finally found Wayne Stewart and were immediately impressed.
We had a tired, over twenty year old bathroom, typical of the era with a bulky corner spa that was never used and a very pokey shower recess. We also had an adjoining walk-in robe of the same era which needed to be re-configured and entirely replaced. Everything basically had to go.
Wayne provided us with some inspirational ideas while listening to and incorporating ours, and guided us to some excellent suppliers to locate the fixtures and fittings we needed.
Once the job began, the process was seamless. Wayne and Colette were on top of everything, providing excellent communication and keeping us informed throughout the entire process. Their team of tradies were always there when Wayne said they would be, were respectful, clean and efficient, and the quality of their workmanship was exceptional .We had no hiccups or issues along the way and at the end of the project we were absolutely thrilled at how well the job had turned out.
Wayne promised it would be “the best room in the house” and he really has delivered on that promise. We now have a dream bathroom which exceeds all our expectations and all who see it have agreed.
